Eyebrow Transplantation

Eyebrow Transplantation

Because eyebrows are highly unique, with small, short, and slightly curving hair, and one follicle having only one strand, the surgeon must be really careful about taking the right hair from the scalp for this kind of transplantation. Causes of eyebrow loss may vary, from normal diseases such as thyroid, SLE, scarring, or Alopecia Areata, to congenital conditions. We can do transplantation if the cause is scarring or congenital.

Eyebrow transplantation process

  1. Design the eyebrow (by the expert doctor according to the patient’s needs)
  2. Prepare the area and donor scalp hair.
  3. Extract the scalp hair (1 hour).
  4. Trim the donor graft and select the best graft for transplantation.
  5. Transplant the selected donor graft on one side at a time (1 hour / side).
*** The operation takes 3-4 hours in total **
*** The patient will feel pain only for the anesthetic shot, but will not feel pain during the transplantation or graft extraction ***

What you should know about permanent eyebrow transplantation.

– Normally, eyebrow transplantation will be done based on the existing eyebrow, unless otherwise requested by the patient, and it is possible to make new eyebrows. The clinic has an expert eyebrow designer that will work with the patient.

– Normally, men’s eyebrows are thicker than women’s. Eyebrow transplantation for women usually takes 150-250 grafts per side, compared to 200-400 for men, depending on their desired thickness.

– Because the scalp hair and eyebrows are physically different, grafted eyebrows usually grow faster, and require trimming every 4-6 weeks in the first few years after the operation.

Postoperative care for eyebrow transplantation

– The grafted hair will stick within 3 days of transplantation because the eyebrows usually receive a high amount of blood.

– Avoid rubbing the grafted area too hard in the first 2-4 weeks to prevent the graft from falling off.

– The grafted area can be washed on the first day after the operation (do not use excessive force). Moisture will actually help stimulate the grafted area.

– There might be swelling around the eyes after the transplantation (from the anesthetic). The swelling will last only for 2-5 days due to the small amount of anesthetics used.

– Goggles and high pillows are recommended to prevent unintentional touching of the grafted area while sleeping.

– Do not dye, laser, shave, or pluck the eyebrows (trimming is OK) in a month before and after the permanent eyebrow transplantation.

*** You can see that eyebrow transplantation is highly sensitive from the design that must suit an individual patient, the graft that must be suitable, the trimming that must be very delicate, and the grafting process that must follow the correct direction and angle, to postoperative care that must be appropriate. Each step is important, and requires special experience from the doctor and team.
